Product Description
The D5202S is a SIL 3-capable power distribution and diagnostic module from GM International. It is designed to protect your automation system by limiting the maximum supply current for a set of D5000 series modules connected via the GM International Power Bus[reference:0]. This module is essential when your primary power supply provides a current that exceeds the requirements of the connected load, effectively acting as a high-integrity power manager and protection device.
Its robust design, featuring ideal diode circuits for automatic power source switching, makes it suitable for safety-related systems in high-risk industries like oil & gas, chemical, and power generation, where system availability and functional safety are paramount. It can be installed in Safe Area / Non Hazardous locations or directly in Zone 2 / Class I, Division 2 hazardous areas, certified to ATEX and IECEx standards.
Key Features & Advantages
High Functional Safety (SIL 3): The D5202S is suitable for applications requiring up to SIL 3 level according to IEC 61508:2010 Ed.2, making it ideal for the most demanding safety instrumented systems (SIS). It achieves a high Safe Failure Fraction (SFF) of 99.86% and a low average Probability of Failure on Demand (PFDavg) of 2.19E-07.
Intelligent Power Management and Redundancy: The module accepts single or redundant 24 Vdc power inputs (18 to 30 Vdc). Using internal "ideal diode" circuits, it seamlessly switches to the backup supply in case of a primary source fault, with just a few mW of power dissipation, ensuring uninterrupted operation. This OR-ing configuration also allows mixing supply voltages for increased flexibility.
Comprehensive Diagnostics and Fault Signaling: The D5202S continuously monitors for faults such as under-voltage (<18V) or over-voltage (>30V) on each supply line and cumulative bus faults (like a short/open circuit on the D5000 modules). It provides local visual status via up to 5 LEDs and remote alarming via two voltage-free SPDT relay contacts, which are de-energized in a fault condition.
Power Bus Integration for D5000 Series: Specifically designed for GM International's D5000 series, the D5202S mounts on a standard 35mm DIN rail and connects to the Power Bus. It supplies current to approximately 40-50 D5000 modules, centralizing power distribution and simplifying field wiring.
Built for Harsh Industrial and Hazardous Environments: The module is ruggedly constructed for reliable operation in extreme conditions. It has a wide operating temperature range of -40°C to +70°C and features ATEX, IECEx, TUV, DNV, and KR certifications for use in Zone 2 hazardous areas and demanding industrial applications.
