The Bachmann EM203 is a 3-port Ethernet master module specifically designed for the M1 automation system. As a core communication component, it transforms any M1 rack into a Modbus-TCP/UDP/RTU gateway without the need for external switches, making it the default choice for wind-turbine, marine, and rolling-mill networks. The module supports three independent 10/100 Mbit Ethernet ports with RJ45 interface, enabling flexible network topologies, redundancy configurations, and seamless FASTBUS communication.

The module is powered by 24 V DC (18-36 V DC range) with typical power consumption of only 3 W, minimizing heat generation in control cabinets. It is designed to operate in extreme environments with an operating temperature range of -40°C to +85°C, storage temperature of -40°C to +85°C, and humidity tolerance of 5% to 95% RH non-condensing. The module complies with IEC 61131-2 and EN 50170 standards.

Physically, the EM203 conforms to the standard M1 module format, measuring approximately 100 mm × 63 mm × 12 mm and weighing just 0.2 kg. It mounts directly onto M1 system backplanes such as BS207 (7-slot) or BS209/BS210, with plug-and-play installation and automatic configuration. The module holds comprehensive certifications including CE, UL, and marine certifications from DNV, ABS, LR, BV, NK, KR, and RINA, making it suitable for offshore and maritime applications.

Key applications include offshore wind turbines for linking turbine PLC to SCADA via Modbus-TCP over fiber, ship engine rooms for distributing process data to multiple control zones, and steel-mill finishing lines for real-time speed reference to multiple drive islands.
