The Bachmann EM203 is a 3-port Ethernet master module specifically designed for the M1 automation system. As a core communication component, it transforms any M1 rack into a Modbus-TCP/UDP/RTU gateway without the need for external switches, making it the default choice for wind-turbine, marine, and rolling-mill networks. The module supports three independent 10/100 Mbit Ethernet ports with RJ45 interface, enabling flexible network topologies, redundancy configurations, and seamless FASTBUS communication.
At the heart of the EM203 is an ARM Cortex-A8 processor running at 400 MHz, coupled with 256 MB DDR3 memory. The module features 16 MB flash memory for firmware and 1 MB SRAM for variables, providing ample resources for complex communication tasks. The Ethernet ports feature 1.5 kV DC isolation between each port and the backplane, ensuring robust protection against electrical interference in harsh industrial environments.
The EM203 supports a wide range of industrial protocols, including FASTBUS for deterministic real-time communication with Bachmann's M1 system components, Modbus-TCP/UDP and RTU over TCP for seamless integration with third-party devices, as well as HTTP and SNTP for web-based configuration and time synchronization.
