The Metso IOP345 is a high-performance I/O processor module integral to the Metso DNA (Valmet DNA) automation platform. It functions as a distributed processing node, handling real-time I/O data acquisition, executing control algorithms, and managing communication with field devices via standard fieldbus protocols. Equipped with a 32-bit RISC processor running at 400 MHz, the IOP345 includes 128 MB SDRAM and 64 MB Flash memory for application storage. Dual 10/100BASE-TX Ethernet ports support media redundancy protocols such as MRP and RSTP for fault-tolerant network connectivity, ensuring continuous operation even in the event of a cable or switch failure. Built-in fieldbus interfaces include Profibus DP (9-pin D-sub), Modbus RTU (RS-485), and CANopen (5-pin), enabling direct connection to intelligent sensors, actuators, and drives. The module supports hot-swap replacement, allowing insertion or removal while the system is powered, minimizing downtime during maintenance or expansion.

Front-panel LEDs indicate module status, network activity, and I/O health, with detailed diagnostics available via system software for predictive maintenance. The conformal-coated PCB protects against humidity, dust, and corrosive gases, with an operating temperature range of -20°C to +60°C and storage temperature from -40°C to +85°C.
