The Metso IOP345 is a high-performance I/O processor module integral to the Metso DNA (Valmet DNA) automation platform. It functions as a distributed processing node, handling real-time I/O data acquisition, executing control algorithms, and managing communication with field devices via standard fieldbus protocols. The module features a powerful 32-bit processor, onboard memory for logic execution, and dual Ethernet ports for network redundancy.

Equipped with a 32-bit RISC processor running at 400 MHz, the IOP345 includes 128 MB SDRAM and 64 MB Flash memory for application storage. It supports up to 256 I/O points per module via the backplane and offers 1+1 redundancy with automatic switchover for mission-critical processes. The module operates on 24V DC ±20% power supply with typical current consumption of 150 mA.

Dual 10/100BASE-TX Ethernet ports support media redundancy protocols such as MRP and RSTP for fault-tolerant network connectivity, ensuring continuous operation even in the event of a cable or switch failure. Built-in fieldbus interfaces include Profibus DP (9-pin D-sub), Modbus RTU (RS-485), and CANopen (5-pin), enabling direct connection to intelligent sensors, actuators, and drives. Supported protocols also include Profinet, EtherNet/IP, and Modbus TCP via software selection.

The IOP345 is capable of executing pre-programmed IEC 61131-3 control logic (ladder, function block, structured text) directly at the I/O level, reducing controller workload and enabling local control actions even if communication with higher-level controllers is temporarily lost. The module supports hot-swap replacement, allowing insertion or removal while the system is powered, minimizing downtime during maintenance or expansion.

Front-panel LEDs indicate module status, network activity, and I/O health, with detailed diagnostics available via system software for predictive maintenance. The conformal-coated PCB protects against humidity, dust, and corrosive gases, with an operating temperature range of -20°C to +60°C and storage temperature from -40°C to +85°C. The module is designed for standard 19-inch rack mounting, single slot, with dimensions of 100 × 60 × 30 mm and weight of approximately 0.4 kg. Certifications include CE, UL 61010-1, CSA C22.2, and optional ATEX Zone 2.
