The ProSoft Technology MVI69-FLN is a FA Control Network Communication Module that serves as a single-slot solution for Rockwell Automation CompactLogix and MicroLogix I/O compatible processors to interface with FL-net protocol compatible devices. This module implements the FL-net version 2.00 (OPCN-2) specification defined by JEMA (The Japan Electrical Manufacturers Association) for the standard FA control network, which operates as a master-less system.

The MVI69-FLN module acts as a gateway between the FL-net network and the CompactLogix/MicroLogix backplane. The data transfer from the CompactLogix/MicroLogix processor is asynchronous from the actions on the FL-net network. The module's internal database can be used to exchange Area 1 and Area 2 cyclic, network, and module status data between the processor and the FL-net network.

FL-net is a peer-to-peer networking system where all devices transfer data using two shared databases with fixed sizes. The MVI69-FLN module accepts commands to control and monitor the data stored in these two databases. This data is passed between the module and the CompactLogix/MicroLogix processor over the backplane for use in customer applications.

The module features a single-slot design compatible with the 1769 backplane, with a current load of 800 mA maximum at 5 VDC and a power supply distance rating of 2. It operates within a temperature range of 0°C to 60°C (32°F to 140°F) and can be stored from -40°C to 85°C (-40°F to 185°F). The relative humidity tolerance is 5% to 95% non-condensing. LED indicators provide status for power, module status, application status, CFG port activity, Ethernet port activity, and error status.

The CFG port uses an RJ45 connector (with supplied DB-9M cable) for RS-232 communication with no hardware handshaking. The application port provides a 10/100 Base-T Ethernet compatible interface with electrical isolation of 1500 V rms at 50 Hz to 60 Hz for 60 seconds. The module includes Ethernet broadcast storm resiliency of ≤5000 ARP frames per second for ≤5 minutes duration.

FL-net network features include a peer-to-peer master-less token-passing network control method and FA link protocol on Ethernet UDP/IP. Cyclic data transfer supports virtual memory Area 1 and Area 2, with cyclic data mapped to the module's I/O area. The module includes a personality module with non-volatile Compact Flash memory for storing setup and network configuration data, allowing restoration by simply exchanging the personality module without a PC or configuration required.

The module supports server functionality including log data read service, log data clear service, network parameter read, return message, and profile read. It includes Network Management Table, Own-node Management Table, and Participating Node Management Table according to FL-net version 2.00 specification. The network is configurable via a text file.

The ProSoft Configuration Builder software is included, featuring graphical drag-and-drop configuration for simple module configuration, easy-to-use diagnostics window with menu-driven hardware and protocol diagnostics, and the ability to view module database contents through serial connection to a desktop PC.

All modules in the MVI series use a rechargeable Lithium Vanadium Pentoxide battery to backup the 512K SRAM memory, real-time clock, and CMOS. The battery should last for the life of the module. The module must be powered for approximately twenty hours before it becomes fully charged. After fully charged, the battery provides backup power for approximately 21 days.
