Product Description
The WEG WG20 is a modular, high-performance helical gear unit designed for a wide range of industrial applications. It represents the first geared motor range to be completely developed in-house by WEG, combining high power density, efficiency, and reliability in a compact footprint. The WG20 family comprises helical, parallel shaft, helical bevel, and helical worm gear units, providing versatile solutions for diverse drive tasks.
The gear units are available in twelve housing sizes for nominal torques from 50 to 18,000 Nm. Smaller units (up to 600 Nm) feature lightweight aluminum die-cast housings with excellent heat dissipation, while larger sizes (800 Nm and above) utilize robust grey cast iron monobloc housings for extra strength and torsional stiffness. The housing design is optimized for smooth surfaces, facilitating cleaning and making the units suitable for hygienic applications such as food processing.
The WG20 gear units offer modular construction with various mounting options, including foot, flange, and shaft configurations. They are available in two-stage, three-stage, four-stage, and five-stage designs, providing a wide range of gear ratios. The coaxial design ensures a compact footprint and smooth torque transmission. Output shaft options include solid shaft, hollow shaft with key, hollow shaft with shrink disc, and Easylock.
Key features include high efficiency (up to IE3 energy efficiency class), low noise operation, and minimal maintenance requirements. The gear units are combined with WEG motors ranging from 120 W to 22 kW, with motor housings made of aluminum up to 7.5 kW and grey cast iron for larger frame sizes. All relevant technical data can be retrieved via QR code on the nameplate.
Applications include conveyor systems, mixers, packaging machinery, pumps, rotary tables, presses, screw conveyors, lifts, looms, bakery equipment, and timber processing machines. The WG20 series also offers ATEX-certified versions for hazardous environments and decentralized drive packages with MW500 variable speed drives.
