The Woodward PEAK200 is a digital control system specifically designed for the operation and protection of small single-valve or single-valve rack industrial steam turbines. This cost-effective turbine controller includes specifically designed algorithms and logic to start, stop, control and protect small industrial steam turbines. The PEAK200 is Woodward's next generation of field-proven off-the-shelf controllers for small industrial steam turbines, serving as a significant upgrade to the existing Peak150 product line with enhanced CPU, graphical display, communications, and I/O functions.

The controller is available in wall-mounted and flush-mount versions. The front panel serves as both a programming station and an Operator Control Panel (OCP). This user-friendly front panel allows engineers to access and program the unit according to the specific needs of the plant, while operators can easily start/stop the turbine and activate/deactivate any control mode. The 5-inch graphic display (800x480 resolution) allows operators to view both actual and setpoint values on the same screen, simplifying turbine operation. Password protection is used to safeguard all settings in the device's programming mode.

The PEAK200 includes two PID controllers (Speed & Cascade), several startup routines (manual, automatic, remote), and multiple protection functions (overspeed, critical speed range, etc.) that can be configured by a user according to the specific application requirements. Users can configure the various PID controllers, startup routines, and protection levels themselves without needing a specialized control engineer. Once configured, the PEAK200 performs a configuration check to ensure that the programmer has not made any basic configuration errors.

The controller features a rugged design meeting NEMA 4x corrosion resistance tests and IP56 rating, protecting it from dust and water jets. It is designed to operate in harsh industrial environments with an operating temperature range of -40°C to +85°C. The controller supports both low voltage DC power (18-36 Vdc) and high voltage AC/DC power (88-264 Vac / 90-150 Vdc).

Communication capabilities include (2) Ethernet 10/100 ports, (2) CAN communication ports (1 Mbit), and an isolated RS-232/RS-485 port. I/O features include (2) speed sensor inputs (MPU 2K), (4) analog input 4-20 mA channels (with loop power), (3) analog output 4-20 mA channels, configurable actuator output channels (4-20 mA/20-200 mA), (8) discrete input channels (with contact power), and (4) relay outputs (form-c). The controller supports expanded I/O options when using Woodward CAN distributed LinkNet I/O nodes.

Optionally, users can utilize Woodward's RemoteView software with the PEAK200 to function as a remote control panel and/or engineering station. The PEAK200 also includes a suite of service tools allowing users to download configuration files for backup, upload configuration parameter files, and view real-time or saved trend files.

Additional features include field configurable operation, integrated graphical control panel, built-in first-out fault indicator, trip and alarm event recorder, internal turbine simulator, adaptive PID controller, real-time clock synchronization via SNTP, and sulfur-resistant conformal coating. The same form-fit function as the previous Peak150 controller simplifies upgrades and replacements.

Key applications include controlling compressors, pumps, and fans driven by small industrial steam turbines, as well as HVAC systems in large-scale industrial facilities. The PEAK200 is certified for hazardous locations with variants available for ATEX Zone 2 and Class 1 Division 2 environments.
