Product Description
The Isotech Oberon-R is a precision high temperature blackbody source specifically engineered for the realization of ITS-90 fixed points. Utilizing a sodium heat pipe, it maintains an exceptionally low temperature gradient along the furnace core, creating ideal conditions for aluminum (660.323°C), silver (961.78°C), and copper (1084.62°C) fixed point cells. The temperature range extends from 450°C to 1090°C, with usability up to 1100°C.
The furnace heater features a non-inductive bird-cage design insulated by twin bore alumina tubes. The heat pipe construction is engineered so that the inner wall is not subject to thermal expansion stresses from the outer wall before reaching conduction temperature. The working fluid is permanently and safely sealed within a plasma-arc-welded enclosure.
Key performance specifications include emissivity greater than 0.995, stability of ±0.05°C, and a cavity size of 50 mm diameter by 300 mm depth. The display resolution automatically switches from 0.1°C below 1000°C to 1°C at higher temperatures. Time to reach operating temperature is approximately 4 hours.
The Oberon-R requires water cooling at 0.5 to 1 liter per minute; supply and waste connections are provided. An advanced electronic control system manages furnace temperature and can be self-calibrated using freeze-point cells. An over-temperature safety circuit driven by a second thermocouple is included for protection.
Compatible fixed point cells contain 99.9999% pure metals and provide melt or freeze curves accurate to within ±0.01°C. When used with radiation pyrometers, uncertainties better than ±0.25°C can be achieved. The system includes PC interface capability, and multiple fixed point cells can be used interchangeably with a single apparatus.
Applications include primary laboratory calibration of radiation thermometers, realization of the ITS-90 scale, and high-accuracy infrared thermometer verification in national metrology institutes and accredited calibration laboratories.
