The WEG W22Xec series of three-phase induction motors is specifically engineered for operation in potentially explosive atmospheres. Certified for use in Zone 2 (gas) and Zone 22 (dust) hazardous locations, these motors provide a reliable and safe solution for industries such as oil and gas, chemical, mining, and grain handling. They meet the strict requirements of the ATEX and IECEx directives, offering an ''increased safety'' (Ex ec) protection concept for gas environments and ''dust ignition protection by enclosure'' (Ex tc) for combustible dust environments.

The motors are available in a wide power range from 0.12 kW up to 450 kW, with efficiency classes of IE2, IE3, and IE4 according to EN 60034-30. The W22Xec series is also certified for operation with variable frequency drives (VFDs), making them a versatile choice for demanding applications. Features include thermal protection embedded in motor windings, robust cast iron or aluminum frame construction, IP55 or IP66 protection, and TEFC cooling.

The W22Xec motors are certified for Zone 2 gas groups IIA, IIB, and IIC, with a temperature class of T3. The motors are designed for an ambient temperature of -20°C to +40°C and altitudes up to 1000 m above sea level.
