The Endress+Hauser RN22 active barrier is a versatile, intrinsically safe interface for analog instrument loops in hazardous areas. It powers 2- or 4-wire field devices while providing two galvanically isolated signal outputs—one for the primary automation system and a second per NAMUR NE 175 for process optimization, without affecting the traditional control loop.

The RN22 supports 0/4 to 20 mA and HART signals with full transparency for digital communication. A second, fully isolated output enables parallel use of the same measurement for monitoring, diagnostics, or advanced process control. Commissioning requires no manual hardware settings; all configuration is handled via software.

Available in 1- or 2-channel versions, the RN22 fits in a compact 12.5mm wide housing per channel, significantly reducing panel space. Connection options include screw or push-in spring terminals, as well as power supply via DIN rail bus connector. Front-panel lugs provide easy access for HART communicators.

With SIL2/SC3 certification and intrinsic safety approval for Zone 2 hazardous areas, the RN22 is suitable for a wide range of process industry applications.
