The Watlow FIREROD cartridge heater revolutionized heating element technology with its premium materials and unique swaging process. This process compacts the magnesium oxide (MgO) insulation, increasing thermal conductivity and dielectric strength while allowing the resistance wire to operate at lower temperatures for longer life. The result is superior heat transfer, uniform temperatures, and exceptional resistance to oxidation and corrosion even at high temperatures.

FIREROD heaters are constructed with only the finest materials: Incoloy 800 sheath (standard) providing high temperature resistance far superior to 304 stainless steel; high-purity MgO insulation compacted to precise density for high dielectric strength and efficient heat transfer; nickel-chromium resistance wire with computer-calculated gauge, length and spacing for uniform temperatures; high-temperature flexible lead wires for reduced failure and easier installation; and high-grade nickel pins for corrosion resistance at elevated temperatures.

Watlow's tight manufacturing controls achieve the smallest "no heat" sections on both ends of any cartridge heater manufacturer. Diameters range from 1/8 inch to 1 inch with comparable metric sizes available. Operating temperatures reach 760°C (1400°F) with Incoloy sheath and 540°C (1000°F) with stainless steel. Watt densities up to 400 W/in² (62 W/cm²) are achievable, with maximum voltage of 480V.

Applications include molds, dies, platens, hot plates, sealing equipment, fluid heating, life sciences, aerospace, semiconductor processing, and foodservice equipment. UL and CSA approved flexible stranded leads ensure safety and compliance.
