The Isotech Model 989 is a portable blackbody calibration source specifically optimized for infrared thermometers and thermal imagers used in human body temperature screening. Its compact design features two integrated mounting points for easy tripod attachment, allowing it to be positioned above or below an IR camera as needed.

Unlike heat-only devices, the Model 989 utilizes a solid-state thermoelectric heat pump for both heating and cooling. This enables it to maintain a stable setpoint in high ambient temperatures and operate below room temperature. The 70 mm diameter high-emissivity ridged plate covers a range of 20°C to 50°C with 0.01°C resolution. Response time is under five minutes.

Optional stainless steel tubes are available to minimize air draft effects: a 40 mm tube for handheld medical thermometers and a 210 mm tube for thermal imagers. The setpoint can be locked via the front panel to prevent accidental changes. PC interface is standard, allowing remote monitoring and adjustment. Units are switchable between °C, °F, and K.
