Product Description

The Isotech 970 Pegasus R is a compact, portable blackbody source specifically designed for calibrating radiation pyrometers and infrared thermometers over a temperature range of 150°C to 1200°C. Its lightweight construction (13 kg) and rapid 20-minute warm-up time make it equally suitable for laboratory use and on-site field calibration.

The instrument features a dual-control system: a PID controller sets the furnace temperature, while an independent indicator with a Type R thermocouple positioned at the target matrix displays the actual radiance temperature. The 20 mm diameter by 65 mm deep cavity achieves emissivity of 0.995 and uniformity better than ±0.3°C across the aperture at 444°C. Stability is maintained at ±0.1°C throughout the operating range.

The cavity is removable, allowing fixed point cells to be inserted for achieving primary standard accuracy. When configured for fixed points, the cavity diameter is 10 mm with 65 mm depth and 120° cone tip. Compatible fixed point cells include indium, tin, zinc, aluminum, and silver, enabling calibration with ITS-90 defined temperature points.

A dedicated blackbody target radiation source, based on a design by the UK National Physical Laboratory (NPL), is housed within the Pegasus R for calibrating radiation thermometers in the 0.9 to 14 micrometer wavelength range. Each unit includes Cal Notepad software for automated data logging via the built-in RS232 or RS422 interface.

Traceability is established through calibration certificates for the built-in indicator and supplied reference probe, available with NIST or UKAS accreditation. The furnace operates on standard line voltage with typical power consumption of 800W and requires cooling to approximately 100°C before being placed in its carrying case.

Applications include calibration of industrial radiation pyrometers, infrared thermometers, thermal imaging systems, and use as a reference source in secondary and primary calibration laboratories.
